Scaffold Towers vs. Ladders

Working at elevated heights is very dangerous and it’s important for workers to take proper security and safety measures before they climb up. You may have seen workers working on construction sites but they have a proper scaffolding all around the building to protect themselves from injury. There have been countless cases in the past where workers have gotten injured or even fallen to their deaths to due to improper protection. Whether you are working outside at home or on a construction site, it’s very important that proper safety and security measures are taken.

If you have to do something on a higher floor in the past, your only option was to climb up a ladder. Ladders could either be positioned against the wall or they had an opening mechanism through which you could position the ladder on the floor and then work. However, working on a ladder is not a wise option. There’s a considerable amount of risk involved: ladders are balanced against a flat surface, and if they slip out from underneath, you are going to take a hard fall. Similarly, if the ladder buckles under the weight and bends, you are going to fall down. A big risk while working on the ladder is maintaining your balance; most ladder rungs are pretty narrow and relatively small in size so it’s difficult for a worker to balance himself or herself properly on them.

Instead of using a ladder, you should consider using a scaffold tower. Scaffold towers are the safest alternative to using a ladder to work above ground level for a variety of reasons. While scaffold towers are obviously bigger than ladders, they are quite safer. Here are a few things that you should know about scaffold towers.

Modular in Nature

Most scaffold towers are made from aluminium tubing and piping and feature a modular design. You can increase the height of the tower by a few inches by replacing the aluminium pipes or reduce it accordingly. The modular design allows you to fix a platform on the top of the tower as well, which makes it easy for the workers to move around freely while they are standing on top of the tower. You don’t need to worry about balancing yourself on one foot.

Movable

A common feature in many scaffold towers is the wheels installed underneath. These wheels allow you to move the tower easily from one place to another. However, if you want to fix the tower firmly in place, you can apply the brakes on the wheels and the tower will stand in its position. As you can see, scaffold towers are obviously much safer than conventional ladders for working at different heights.
